The 2010 Ironman UK Swim Course

The exciting news to come out of the Race Office this year is that there will be a brand new swim venue for the 2010 race at Ironman UK. No longer will the race start at Rivington and the athletes wont have to face the possibility of all that mud.

The new swim venue is to be PENNINGTON FLASH which is situated in Leigh in the Borough of Wigan. I have shown where the venue is in relation to Bolton (where the race will finish) and Manchester.

Here is the Google Maps Link for those who want to explore more:

I took a quick trip over there in the ice and snow to have a look and here are some pictures of the new venue.

Pennington Flash is a large body of open water, but is adjacent to large solid piece of tarmac which I am sure will be the new transition for the race.

stood at the point where I took the above picture, the next two show the views to the left and to the right

and then spinning right round with the water at your back you can look over the fields

and see the Park Inn and Leigh Sports Village where the registration and Expo will be situated.

the single track road out of the Park (which you can see in the photo after the ducks)

goes on for about 400m or so and has some nice little speed bumps for you to tackle as you leave T1

- so beware and make sure your bottles and food are secured properly.

I will upload more information on the site and surrounding area when I get the chance....
